BLOGS
I (intermittently) keep three blogs.
Multiframe is a series of short pieces about comics and comics related stuff.

Discrepanc(ie) is my own OpEd page because sometimes I have an opinion and I need to externalise it for the purposes of therapy.

UoAComics contains the work of my fantastic comics students at the University of Auckland. Please take a look at the gorgeous, intimate stuff they've produced over the years (and while you're at it why not sign up for MEDIA 222/327?)

I also write comment pieces for Newsroom. You can find some of them here.

EDUCATION
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Comics and Graphic Novels (although I don't like the term graphic novel as it was invented for people who think they're too clever to read comics)
1986 - 1989
Had my head blown away on a Cultural Studies degree taught in an old cigarette factory on the Romford Road at the height of Thatcher's power
Graphic Medicine and Graphic Science, or the intersections of comics, health and science. Also broadly interested in science communication.
Critical Theory (my early work was all theory, but is more applied now that things have got so urgent)
1990 - 1991
Couldn't stop reading theory, so after a year as a plumber's mate and a thatcher's mate (different thatcher) I further deconstructed myself
1992 - 1997
Spent two years looking for funding before getting a scholarship and then spent another three years writing about being born without having wanted to be (1990 -1995 saw lots of dancing, too)
Magpie (so tend to chase whatever shines)
